Concept: Keeping certain elements of the original bike to recall the style, atmosphere and unique identity of Laverda motorbikes, it was necessary in my opinion that the frame (even heavily modified) and external design of the engine be immediately identified as Laverda. All the rest would be changed or uprated for addition performance. This subtle reference between classic 1970s style and modern technology was undoubtedly the most difficult equation to solve..

Owner Jean-Louis Olive manages www.laverdamania.net, He  authored the book “Legendary Laverda” and collaborated with Piero Laverda for “Laverda 1000 V6, Formula 1 on 2 Wheels”. This self-edition will be available in French, English, German and Italian in January 2017.

The exhaust system was  digitally designed by the specialized company Burns Stainless in the USA, and built in France in titanium and stainless steel. Racing camshafts, lightened and balanced crankshaft, new Redax billet aluminium hydraulic clutch cover which is both lighter and stronger to handle the extra engine power. The oil cooler by Mocal in the UK is larger. After two failing original cylinder heads, the current one is a very rare TT F1 type (used by the factory on the late 80srace bikes. This component was found in Spain and totally rebuilt by Peter Herrmann in Germany

To the difference of the current tendency for models called “neo-retro” for  which  the goal is to produce modern current models although with a vintage look (Fiat 500, Mini Cooper, Kawasaki W800, etc.), I wanted to build a project that takes the basis of a mythical old motorcycle, which is redevelopped thanks to the most modern technologies.

Electrical system/instruments by Motogadget in Germany. Head and tail lights using LEDs P12XX weights about 60-kg less than original at 192-kg with 5 liters of oil and 10 liters of fuel..

Chassis: Original typeframe  modified, lightened and stiffened. Trail slightly reduced, wheels and swingarm axles in high-grade titanium (TA6V). Light Suzuki GSXR wheels are controlled by an Ohlins monoshock and Marzocchi forks with Racetech parts. The brakes are new-style Brembo. Some billet aluminium parts are from France, others by Redax Laverda in Australia.

Main modifications between the original and P12XX include full bodywork in carbon fiber, with visual references to the most noted Laverda racers of the Seventies(750 SFC, 1000 Jota). The engine is redeveloped, lightened and tuned with work done by Peter Herrmann of OCT in Germany: 1200cc, ceramic coated Ross racing pistons from Redax Laverda in Australia, US-made Carillo conrods from the Laverda specialist Wolfgang Haerter in Canada, Mikuni series RS carbs from Topham in Germany, Ignitech programmable ignition with Nology HT coils and an upgraded 300W Nippon-Denso alternator rom Redax Laverda in Australia.

In the same time, the purpose is to transpose to the current time and with all the benefits of the modern technology, one of the symbols of motorcycling‘s golden age of the 1970s. In 1976, the Slater-tuned Laverda 1000 Jota was the fastest, most powerful motorcycle in the world. The goal? Transform a legendary machine of its time with modern performances and handling.
